Ribbon eel

Ribbon eel (Rhinomuraena quaesita) emerging from a hole. This species of eel can grow up to 130cm long and is found in the Indo-Pacific region among seaward reefs and in lagoon areas. The Ribbon eel is often found hidden in sand or rubble with only its head emerging from a hole. This species is a protandrous hermaphrodite. This means that as the eel grows older, it changes sex from a male to a female. It feeds mainly on small fish. Photographed in Lembeh Strait, North Sulawesi, Indonesia
