'A Heroic Deed of the Royal Horse Artillery Near Compiegne', (1919). Scene from the First World War: at the Battle of Nery in September 1914, the British 1st Cavalry Brigade and 'L Battery', Royal Horse Artillery, fought off the Germans until relieved by British infantry reinforcements. The battery was all but destroyed apart from one gun which was kept in action by Captain Edward Bradbury, Sergeant David Nelson and Battery Sergeant-Major George Dorrell. All three were awarded the Victoria Cross for their brave stand, Bradbury's VC being posthumous. From "The History of the Great European War: its causes and effects", Vol. II, by W. Stanley Macbean Knight. [Caxton Pulishing Company, Limited, London, 1919]

Television - 'The Army Game' - Gatwick Airport

Pictured at Gatwick Airport are (l-r) Geoffrey Sumner (Major Upshot-Bagley), William Hartnell (Company Sergeant-Major Bullimore), Ted Lune (Private Len Bone), Mario Fabrizi (Lance-Corporal Ernest 'Moosh' Merryweather) and Harry Fowler (Corporal 'Flogger' Hoskins) of Granada Television's 'The Army Game'. They were about to fly off in a charter plane to report in Pontefract to Major William Cook, commanding officer of the King's Own Yorkshire Light Infantry there, who's troops have been told they should not view the TV show because it 'appears to portray little that bars any relation to the present day Army'. As a result of a telegram which the show's team sent to Pontefract, Major Cook consented to the cast visiting the barracks
