New World monkeys with archaic Latin names, 19th-century artwork. At upper left is a howler monkey (Alouatta sp.). At upper right is a coaita or spider monkey (Ateles sp.). At centre left is the tufted capuchin (Sapajus apella). At centre right is the common squirrel monkey (Saimiri sciureus). At lower left is a common marmoset (Callithrix jacchus). At lower right is a golden lion tamarin (Leontopithecus rosalia). Artwork from 'Encyclopaedia Metropolitana', an encyclopedia published in London between 1817 and 1845. Thirty volumes were issued in 59 parts, with 22, 426 pages and 565 plates. This plate is dated 1827
