Music - Benjamin Britten - Wandsworth School Boys Choir - St. Pauls Cathedral

Benjamin Britten, seated in the front row with some of the Wandsworth School Boy's Choir in St. Paul's Cathedral, when they rehearsed his latest work 'Children's Crusade', Op.82, a ballad for children's voices and orchestra. The work was written to mark the occasion of the Jubilee of The Save the Children Fund. It will be sung by the Wandsworth School Boy's choir at the Fund's Interdenominational Thanksgiving Service at St. Paul's Cathedral and at the Aldeburgh Festival in June by the same choir. The words were taken from the text of German poet and dramatist Bertold Brecht, and the ballad relates the harrowing experiences of a band of children lost int he wilderness of wartime Poland in 1939
