The Brig o Doon (Bridge of Doon) - a late medieval bridge used as the setting for the final verse of the Robert Burns's poem Tam o Shanter. The bridge is located near Alloway in South Ayrshire and crosses the River Doon. The bridge is allegedly the inspiration for the name of the musical 1947 Brigadoon by Alan Jay Lerner and Frederick Loewe. Date: 1910s

Portrait photograph of Dr James Clark (1861-1935), Principal of Central Technical Schools for Cornwall from 1899 to 1908. The photograph was taken while he was Rector at Kilmarnock Academy, Ayrshire, Scotland, between 1908 and 1926. Clark was a renowned natural historian and during his short time in Cornwall he wrote numerous papers for the Journal of the Royal Institution of Cornwall; The Birds of Cornwall, published by the Royal Institution of Cornwall in 1902; and compiled the majority of the zoological sections of the Victoria County History of Cornwall, Volume I, published in 1906. This detailed and most attractive reproduction map of Kyle and Mid Ayrshire has been carefully art worked from a scan of an antique original. A map of the historic Scottish district of Kyle, bordering Carrick, Galloway and Clydsdale. Based on the work of the famous Scottish surveyor Timothy Pont. Map is very detailed, with the inclusion of rivers, lochs, mountains, cities, villages and castles. With decorative title and scale cartouches, the former surrounded by regional figures and their livestock. Dedication is in a fantastically detailed cartouche, the Scottish rampant lion crest flanked by two further lions and with the motto conscia virtus'. Some of the decoration has been picked out in gold. Latin text to verso. From Blaeu's Atlas Novus'. The famous firm of Dutch cartographers and publishers was established in the late 16th century by Willem Janszoon Blaeu in Amsterdam. Blaeu was a maker of globes and scientific instruments and purchased some of his early map plates from Jodocus Hondius. From this small beginning was to emerge one of the largest and most prolific map publishing houses of the seventeenth century
