Forget-me-not flower. Coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of a forget-me-not (Myosotis arvensis) flower. The petals (blue) are covered by numerous projections called papillae. Collectively the petals are known as the corolla. At the centre of the flower are the male and female reproductive structures. The stamens (yellow), which produce male gametes in the form of pollen grains, are fused to the corolla. The female reproductive structures (not seen) are located in the hole at the very centre of the flower. Magnification: x39 when printed 10cm high.
