Simulator of a Boeing 747 Jumbo Jet
Flight simulator. View of the flight deck of a modern flight simulator. This is an exact replica of the flight deck of a Boeing 747-400 'Jumbo Jet'. All of the controls and instruments work exactly as on the real aircraft. A computer generated vision system can show almost any airport (here it is runway 28 Left at London Heathrow). The simulator is mounted on hydraulic legs that work with the vision system to replicate the forces felt by pilots during flight, including acceleration and braking as well as urning and vertical forces. The simulator is used to train pilots to fly the aircraft, to practice emergency situations and to conduct twice-yearly proficiency checks. Photographed courtesy of British Airways Flight Training.
