Military - Polaris Submarine Launch - Vickers Shipyard, Barrow in Furness

HMS Resolution, Britain's first Polaris submarine, goes down the slipway at Vickers Shipyard, Barrow in Furness, after being named by the Queen Mother. Protestors against Britain's Polaris programme stood with placards on the approach road as the Queen Mother arrived at Vickers Armstrong Shipyard for the naming and launching ceremony. HMS Resolution, about 7, 000 tons, is one of four Polaris submarines which should be operational by 1970

Queen - Coronation Anniversary

Three generations of the British Royal family - Queen Elizabeth II and her husband, the Duke of Edinburgh, their oldest son, the Prince of Wales, and his oldest son, Prince William - pose for a photograph, at Clarence House in London. * ... before a dinner to mark the 50th anniversary of her Coronation. The Prince of Wales was hosting the meal at his new residence, formerly the London home of the 101-year-old Queen Mother, after a day of celebration which included a service at Westminster Abbey and a children's tea party in the gardens of Buckingham Palace. King George VI & his wife Queen Elizabeth(the Queen Mother)

An early, undated photograph of a smiling King George VI (1895-1952), and his wife Queen Elizabeth(the Queen Mother)(1900-2002)at Ballater railway station, Scotland. Dressed informally, with the Queen Mother sporting a cloche hat and an off the shoulder fur stole, they are accompanied by a dog on a leash, and followed by a railway worker. Ballater was the nearest railway station to Balmoral Castle, until it was then closed by the British Railways Board in 1966, as part of the "Beeching cuts"
